"When I prepare to write a Substack post, I ask myself what feels true in the moment."
Ahh, this was refreshing for me to hear. Sometimes I put too much pressure on myself to extrapolate a schedule of upcoming posts in advance, but then often when I sit down to write one of the "scheduled" posts, it's not the thing I want to write about in the moment and so it doesn't turn out well. It does feel more liberating and authentic to really just listen to what's true and needs to be said in the moment. Thanks for writing, Lillian!
Thanks for reading and for sharing this, Allen! I totally hear you on a schedule for posts sometimes not feeling right. Sometimes when I start writing something too far in advance, I end up pivoting entirely because it doesn't feel like the right thing anymore (not to say that it never will be, but just not that week). I appreciate the familiarity (almost breaking the fourth wall) that you do in your writing, where you own up to where your energy is or how you're feeling that week. It makes it feel really honest. I got slightly behind with reading but am caught up now - comments forthcoming. :)
Haha, nice, I’m glad you’re catching up! Yeah, the honesty/4th wall break stuff is really a device that helps me on the writing end. It helps me get past my own hang-ups and insecurities about whatever I’m writing by just putting it down on the page. But I’m glad it also makes the reading experience better for you!
